If you're a beginner about hardware, go Company Products.
This will be a lot easier for you to do whatever you want and the warranty are pretty much accepted.

If you're an advanced about hardware, assembled is the way to go.

I'm pretty sure you're unfamiliar with hardwares as advanced hardware people wont be asking this question.

However, please keep in mind that if you have a reliable dealer, you can tell him what you're going to use it for, what and how you want it to be, etc. and he'll assemble it for you for a cheaper price, sometimes, better than company products.

To summarize it all :

Company Product PCs :
- Usually is more expensive than assembled
- Computer specs might not reach your need
- Warranty Guaranteed (Unless you self modified)
- You dont really need to know what you're going to use your computer for, Company Product are mostly well-rounded
- Best for those who are unfamiliar with hardwares

Assembled PCs :
- Usually cheaper than Company Products
- Computer specs will go as what you need and to what you're going to use it for
- Warranty varied, needs to be checked carefully
- Those with hardware knowledge and know what they need their computer for should go with this as it'll be better

Good luck in getting a new PC

It depends on what you're looking for. As a general rule, a company produced computer will be the better fit for 90% of the populaiton. If you are considering a laptop, I've never heard of a custom-assembled machine that was better and cheaper than it's big name counterpart.

All the below are for desktop PCs:

For extremely basic computing:
Look at refurbished models in the $300 - $500 price range. Be sure you can live with the OS, and find out how much RAM you will be able to upgrade to. I have a computer that I bought two years ago for $350.00 The only upgrade I have on it was taking the RAM up to 1.5 GB for about $75. I have it connected to the internet and it holds up just fine for basic computing

For Internet-surfing, general media,
$500 - $1000
This is "everyman's" category, and look at Dell and HP to maximize the value and custmer service in this price range. You can get a nice dual core processor, plenty of fast RAM, and copious disk storage for under a grand. If you are doing any casual online gaming, video downloading, and sustained multi-tasking, this is your choice.

Power users:
$2000 and above:
If you asked the question, you don't need this kind of power
Creative workstations can be as much as $6,000 and the price is justified if you can use what it is capable of. If you're not editing audio/video, you don't need this.

Something to notice:
Most people buy computers in the $1000 - $2000 price range, and why is beyond me... There is only a marginal increase in performance/capabilities/features, and some are almost twice the price of their lesser-abled cousins. Sony and Apple have a lot of offerings in this price range, and if you look at the configurations, there is no justification for the best price.

If u need a cheap and affortable PC, assembled unit is a good idea. Ofcoz all the parts r choose by u, normally they can work toghether well, but when some problem occur, u may not able to figure out which part is giving u the error.

As for company product, every unit has been tested and optimize. All the parts the company put into the CPU r confirm can work together (up to 3 years).
Eg. which processor is good or best with which graphic card. U may hav know this well, but do u hav time to test the result ?

Company made assure quality, assembled is tailor-made to what you want.

If you're not very familiar with computers and configurations, or you don't know reliable computer dealers, my guess is stick to company made. HP sells very good configurations now.

But if you are a computer guy and have a decent dealer, then it'll be madness to buy company stuff! Get an awesome/unusual combo and watch how everything gets into place!!!
word of caution: be absolutely certain that the dealer is giving you trustworthy stuff or else you'll end up with a load of dung that looks like a computer.

If you are just a casual user, a company product is best. If you are a gamer or an enthusiast who would tend to upgrade earlier than average users, get an assembled or custombuilt PC. The major components in a custombuilt PC have warranty from the distributor and the manufacturer.

I had an assembled computer and it sucked. It was really fast and stuff, but the components started to conflict progressively on a 3 month period till it was useless. Get yourself a brand new if I were you!

I have built all my PCs for the last 10 yrs and I like it better because I can chose what I want and if I bought a name brand PC with the same specs it would cost 3 times more than buying the parts and doing it myself.

The only problem with this is all the parts have thier own warranty rather than every part under 1 warranty like a named brand pc.

ditto to the Whiz...assembled. You can build it exactly the way you want..plus, it's fun! and not at all difficult.

For excellent product and pricing on components, I use newegg.com:

http://www.newegg.com

Make sure you choose the correct components however. Should you choose a motherboard and cpu that don't match, they won't refund your money. Do the research on their page. They typically recommend components.

Start with the motherboard. My preference on cpu is AMD, but obviously Intel is an excellent product. I like ASUS motherboards. Use SATA II 3GB (the transfer rate) drives (my preference). Don't scrimp on the case and get one with the powersupply and fans included if possible.

Good luck!

assembled computer is preferable , as you can service it(in case of malfunctions)with a servicer provider of your choice(whom u feel is better at it). moreover , in an assembled pc ,only the best of a company's product is selected.

All computers are assembled - they don't appear by magic, they get built from parts. Do you mean one custom built for you as opposed to a stock line?

If you do, a custom built one can be made to fit your requirements better than a stock one... unless your needs are met perfectly fine by a stock one.

Stock ones tend to be cheaper as the makers get bulk discount on the parts they can afford to sell cheaper.
