Just wondering... I am 15 weeks pregnant, and my doctor has stopped checking me "down there"... when I go, they only take my blood pressure, the pee in a cup test, and ask me how I am feeling. Will she check me again? She did a pap smear on my first visit knowing I was pregnant. I just wanted to know if they're not going to look until the actual birth day.

Unless you are having cramping, unusual discharge, or other problems during pregnancy, there is no need for your doctor to perform a pelvic exam again until you are about 36 weeks. You will probably start having weekly pelvic exams at that point but it can vary a bit from doctor to doctor.

They usually check you at the first appointment (including the Pap Smear if you have not recently had one). After that, you usually will not have another check until around 34-36 weeks unless there is a problem that warrants a check.

Around 34 weeks, pregnant women usually have a test called a Group B Strep, which is similar to a pelvic exam/pap smear and at that appointment SOME doctors will also do an internal to check for dilation/effacement.

On the other end of the spectrum, some doctors will not do a check until you are in labor. You can always request one or deny one, also-it is your body and you are in charge!

After your first visit with a pap smear, you shouldn't be checked "down there" again until 36 weeks or so when they will do a strep B test (a swab of your vagina and your anus - and then they will start doing weekly visits and weekly internals to check for dilation and effacement.

You should be weighed, blood pressure checked, urine checked, heart beat listened too at every visit and your stomach measured too.

Good luck, relax, everything is perfectly fine!

I cant not go to work or uni cause otherwise I just get lazy and dont have any structure. Me and my husband were in uni 1 day a week when our daughter was born and neither of us were working for 3 months. It was ridiculous and we didnt have any routine or structure. We both hated it so thats one of the reasons why I cant be a housewife! I know loads of people who are on the dole and hey certainly havent got quality of life. Some people like the structure and routine of work and some people enjoy their chosen careers. I can see what you mean about just working to be at the top bu I wouldnt do that if I was a man or a woman but I definitely wouldnt want to be a full time housewife

It all depends on the doctor. Most American doctors only check a couple times during pregnancy but like I live in Germany and it is a regular thing to do every visit. I asked my German doctor why they do this and American ones dont and they said because a lot of American doctors rely on don't look don't know process to avoid malpractice suits. If the doctor does not check then how can they know if the cervix starts to dilate early. Knowing sooner helps prevent preterm births because they can intervene sooner. Just like with a ultrasound. Most American doctors will only do it once while that also is regular for every visit in Germany. If you are uncomfortable with it you can let your doctor know and they will do it less often to make you more comfortable. Only your specific doctor can tell you what will be done every visit.

Mine doesn't. They have only done it one time so far actually. I do have to pee in a cup everytime though and the past 2 visits they have checked the heartbeat.

18 weeks and 3 days.

They won't start checking you again until you're MUCH closer to your due-date. Some docs will check you when you start your 2 week check-ups, but most won't check you until your 1 week check-ups. The next time the doc will worry about "down there" is when he does your strep B test. Its a simple test to check for a common infection in your vagina. If I remember correctly, that happens around 34 or 36 weeks. That's about the time you start your 1 week visits. Best of Luck with your pregnancy and congratulations.

My doctor stop checking me down there. After the first visit of finding out I was pregnant. She would only measure my belly, blood pressure, urine sample, and ask me how I was feeling and if I had any questions. But she did check there when I was about three weeks away from my due date, and told me I was dilated at one centimeters.

As for me i had the pap around 8 weeks and wasn't checked again until my 36 week check up. I think they check from here on out.

But to answer your question, no they won't check you everytime.

They checked me down there the first time and had a pee test, then never did a pee test after the first one, did blood work a few times and then started checking down there the last 2 months again everytime I went. To check on dilating and to scarp you manbranes which helps you go into labor.
