wow, did your soap mixture explode on you. I remember my batch did! it was aweful. we had to present it to the professor so we had to carve real soap and present it as such. obviously fake, fresh soap isnt as hard. anyway, Sodium chloride or NaCl is used to precipitate the soap! it is the precipitating agent. good luck and study hard!

NaCl causes the precipitation of soap (salting out) by forming sodium esters.

Soap in distilled water foams profusely. Soap in hard water forms scum.

it useto lower the solubility of soap in water so the soap can be precipitated
