I'm sure you are gonna love Dubai... Absolutely awesome place and it's gonna be as hot anymore. You could try the arabic section at the Mall of the Emirates, there are some house supply kinda stores, Batutta mall is also good. If you wanna find somethign traditional and the best deals, go to Deira in the city center... really cool and cheap shops there.
The taxi fare from Burj Al Arab is about 50 dirhams or 13 USD...

Hope it helps and enjoy your shopping!!

IKEA is no longer in City Center. It is moved to Dubai Festival City.

Home furnishing here is quite expensive, esp for the arabic traditional style. Try going to Madinat Souk, you will find plenty of nice items. But they are not cheap in my opinion.

Visit Home Centre in Reef Mall, Malls of the emirates and many more shopping malls for quality home furnishing items. For cheap items visit Carrefour, Lulu, K.M.Trading etc

If you really wanna go cheap, dont shop in dubai, go to Sharjah for example, its only a 20 minute cab ride.
