Children learn about many emotions and how to express them. Anger, Joy, and many in between. All of these involve some changes in the body (face turning red, belly laugh, etc.).

Things become more complicated when adolescence is reached. Adult hormones and other chemical triggers begin to take effect. Some people have a very easy time with this transition. Others enter an emotional roller-coaster (especially those who have very high hormone levels).

What is so different about this time period is that everyone does not undergo the same process AND there are no clear cut teachings about how to deal with this personal issue. Most people are left up to their own imagination and experience to attempt to make sense out of this.

Excitement can lead to an increase in some hormones. In some circumstances this might be a fearful reaction to a bully and you body wants to fight or run away. At other times excitement can be because of attraction and you feel the butterflies or even get goosebumps.

Feel sick and you do not want to eat. Feel good and eat like a horse. Feel totally ecstatic and your appetite is lost. There is no logic to either the emotions or how they will make you feel. This is something you must learn but cannot be easily taught.

There does seem to be some choice as to how you deal with all of this. Given a little trauma, one person has a break with reality, another seems to get through it without effort, while a third becomes a drama queen for life.

Learn about your body. Listen to those little signals from within. Especially when you are tired. Tired people make the worst choices. Learn how to express you emotions. Express then honestly.

Very good question. As an individual matures they undergo different chemical changes in their bodies. These chemicals have been demonstrated to directly link to emotions and thus behavior. As a fellow I can state with certainty that once a guy comes into puberty his views and actions towards females change. The same would apparently be true for females. And please let us not ignore the hormonal changes that women undergo... causing them to behave and act in ways that they do not usually engage.

I assume you are teen. So I will address this from that perspective.

As you enter puberty, You hormone levels begin to rise. Your body starts to develop hair in the armpits and pubic area. You body begins to prepare for the start of the menses. Your breasts start to develop. Sometimes your emotions start to become cyclic from the rise in your hormone levels. And your emotions can be tracked close to your monthly cycles.... once you start to menstruate.

As you get into puberty you start to notice boys more and start to have crushes.

I hope this comes close to what you were looking for.
