Individuals like Mariah Carey and Madonna lived on the breadline and struggled for years before making it big. Is there a direct link between how hard the struggle was and how famous they got, like karma?

Or was it just their own hard work and they could have been just as famous even if they had worked a 9 to 5 job initially?

I agree most performers work very hard before getting their big break. Sometimes it is just a matter of being born into the right family--Kate Hudson, Liza Minnelli and Carrie Fisher as examples. Hooking up with the right promoter, Elvis Presley and Col. Parker; the Beatles and Brian Epstein. Or, just being in the right place at the right time. Famous producer in audience sees you perform, etc. Legend has it that Lana Turner was discovered sitting on a fountain stool at Schwab's drugstore in Hollywood.

How did Paris Hilton struggle?

However, if you are trying to get famous for an actual talent then you need to struggle until you get better than those around you. Very few people are that much better than everyone without working very hard at it.

There is no link because for everyone that struggled, there are prolly twice as many who did not and were born into their celeb.

its just like any other job. if you work hard, you succeed, overcome obstacles, you triumph, if you just sit around waiting for things to fall in your lap, you will be sitting forever.
