Without using weedkillers (selective) on your lawn you will have to dig them out.
Most selective weedkillers are fairly safe to use and will not kill anything other than what you want to.

I am a horticultist with over six years in the lawn care industry. It is henbit. It is a member of the mint family and spreads easily. From what you have said it sounds as though you are in the south. If you prefer to do it yourself make certain you are putting the Pre-M out at the recommend rate for the size lawn you have. Though you put out 2 - 50 lb bags that may not have been enough...or it may have been the wrong product for the time of year. Also it has been 4 months. The product has disipated due to rains and cold weather. It is past time to reapply. Most fertilizers/weed control/pre-emergent products last between 6-8 weeks. A pre-emergent is just that. It doesn't kill existing weeds, but prevents certain types of weeds form germinating. What you need is commonly called a weed and feed, however you need one with a pre-emergent in it as well at this time of year. If put out now at a half rate and applied again in 6 weeks , again at half rate you should not have crab grass and several other weeds in your lawn this summer. If you use a pre-emergent product that also has weed control it should help to kill off the henbit and other existing weeds. And when you look and see what some ppl call dead areas, just remember that weeds were growing there! The bermuda will soon be greening up and will fill in those areas very quickly. Personally, I would call a lawn care company like Trugreen and have them spray a weed control/pre-emergent right now. They are cheap enough. Hope this helps.

Hand weeding is not only a possible solution but a desirable one. Mark the lawn into areas of 1 square meter or yards if you prefer. Choose a day when the soil is wet most weeds will be easy to pull out, for deep rooted weeds push in the garden fork and lift the turf pulling out the offending weed, firm the turf down after. Working on a square meter at a time,
takes time and hard work, that's why most people prefer to take the easy way. Well done you!

Best thing to do is use a rotivator (is that the correct spelling!) or something to overturn the soil so that the roots are exposed. Just pulling the weeds out might not be very effective, if the roots are still in the soil. Once the roots are out the problem should be solved. Until the next time a bird drops a seed! How do you reckon weeds get there in the first place.

The best way to get rid of weeds from your lawn is to use some lawn feed that contains weed killer, this does not damage your lawn. There are a number of lawn feeds you need to get the one that is right for your garden.

Organic Weed Control - Always use good landscaping fabric to keep them out. Mulch around your garden beds, lawns, plants and trees, this will keep weeds at bay.
And finally the best type or organic weed control is to use the hand or tool pulling method! Yes I know this is alot of hard work but it really works best. No chemicals, nothing to mix, just downright dirty work.

dig the bigger ones out by hand... take a section of the area and work on it, don't try to do it all at one time... best time to do so is after a good rain.. they pull out easier!.... after that, let the lawn grass grow a little higher...maybe to four inches or five before you mow and then only mow to three inches...... that helps to shade out some of the smaller weeds... then, inspect often to be aware of when the weeds that are still there are trying to set seed and get them quick!.. even if all you can do is pull the seedheads, at least there won't be more coming next year!!.... after you have gotten a good start, begin using corn gluten... or regular corn meal... and spread it over the lawn area... in early spring a couple times to stop seed germination... in early fall , too, as food for the grass......water as you can..... keep the good grass healthy and it will help to 'out run' the weeds....

The best way to do this is using Horticultural Sand, or sand that has been washed (to remove lime)... you then evenly distribute the sand on the area concerned.
The sand will then kill the weeds by "burning" the leaves of the weeds. The sand won't harm your grass due the the size and shape of the blades of grass. The added benefit of using special sand, is that it will also help to improve drainage in your lawn and thus the overall quality and health of your lawn.

Mulch heavily around all of your plants, and you will find that weeding becomes a five minute a day job. Weeds are less likely to take root, and those that do are very easy to pull.
Mulching also helps keep the soil moist for your plants, so it's an added incentive.

There is this great Grass seed called "Canadian Grass" and is sold in Argos and I believe Homebase. It is so strong and rich that it never goes brown, always stays a beautiful green and always looks great. The best bit is because it's so strong and lush it crowds out the weeds. Just prepare your lawn sprinkle over and hey presto...Best Wishes.
