A tank turtle is going to need good filtration and/or plants to keep the ammonia levels down. The setup is kindof a pain but not so bad to maintain when you get it going. Guppies are way more nutritious than goldfish. We've got a pleco and some chitlids in with ours right now. I'm pretty sure he ate the crayfish. Make sure you have a sun lamp and basking area, even if your turtle never uses it. Make sure your turtle has a good diet. It takes a long time to starve a turtle, but once the signs are evident that he's malnourished, it may already be too late.

We've got a stinkpot turtle in a 150 gallon tank decorated with live plants, river rock, slate, and some resin tree limbs. Once we get/make a better filter, I'd love to add a cooter. I saw some big ones at the Chattanooga aquarium and they were so cute and friendly! Eventually we'd like to have a Matamata, but that's a ways off.
