Travelling from Boston to Corolla, nc. there has to be a better way...?

Traveling with dog, so we need to drive. Just did it in 16 hours each way. 95 thru Connecticut, NJ Turnpike, rt 1 and rt 13 thru delaware, md, va over Chesapeake Bridge Tunnel, etc... There has to be a better way to get from Boston to Corolla on the Outer Banks of NC. Is there?

Not according to Google Maps but apparenty they drive faster. Timing in not hitting cities at rush may be required.
