I'm 17 years old and I never had more than 2 checkups my entire life. (I have really bad parents, they don't care a thing about me) How do I go about finding a doctor?

Ask people you trust. Your friends mothers, aunts, grandmother. If you are in need of a gyn exam..meaning if your are sexually active, then ask them. If it's just a regular old exam, or,if you are feeling unwell, check your phone book, There is also the free medical clinic you might check into. Maybe your parents DO care, they just don't know this is something you want to do. I would, personally, ask a trusted friend to recommend a doctor. They can tell you if they like them, or not. Also, the friends mother can be a big help. Talk to an adult you trust.

oh...this is such a common thing!

Don't give up with wanting to see the doctor! My mum said to me once : "You're healthy. Stop worrying because that will make you sick".

I came back to her after two or three tries and said "Can I just please see the doctor because I'm very anxious and I'll regret not going and won't be able to stop worrying." Then she said she'd make a checkup.

A good idea is getting your mum to make an appointment with the hospital where you were born (if you were born near where you live).

otherwise, the best thing is to just talk it through.

Check with the city health dept as well to see if they offer free clinics, if not check to see if there is a Medical School close by that can be of help.

If you ever need to ask questions feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.
