I don't think it is that children who are labeled as "gifted" get to a point where they can't take in information, but rather I think they get fed up being different & having so much pressure put on them to succeed that they subconciously choose to stop learning to feel normal.

I have worked with gifted children age 7-18 for the last 6 years, and what usually happens around 13-15 is that they get burned out & would rather have social relationships with their peers instead of always feeling like they don't belong to the group.

Another problem that I see is that children are being identified as "gifted" at a very early age, when in fact they may only be accelerated in a particular subject or for a particular time in thier life. There are so few truly gifted people out there that get identified at an early age, and when they do they are brought into programs like Mensa (http://www.mensa.org/) so that they can have an intellectually & academicly stimulating environment and still have opportunities for socialization with like minded peers.

My daughter was labeled gifted at about age 5 also, and she remains a very intelligent woman at 30. However, choices were made in life (mine and hers) ... and she is no better nor worse than many others. I often wonder, if she hadn't been given the term "gifted" by teachers, etc at such a young age, we both may have made better decisions and her natural intelligence would have blossomed on its own in a more positive way.

As for your situation, only your doctors would know if you have a unique medical problem, or if this is a common occurrence. However, that being said .. bless you and good luck with your life. Just be happy and do the very best to be a positive person and share a positive image with those around you. IQ doesn't really matter in the whole scope of life, compassion does.

I am the grandmother of a beautiful grandson with special need's. He is hard of hearing and suffer from a brain annomally. He say's 3-4 word's but no sentence's. He is bullied at school, becase he cannot not talk back when they say mean thing's to him. He is a walking target. I still would feel he should attend public school with special aide's [teacher's assitant's] to help him. The only other local help is where they are all in diaper's and they don't count, spell, read just play. I know my grandson can learn as we are finally getting word's and he even read's book's. If ppl just changed the way they taught thier NORMAL children to have compassion then perhap's our children would not have to suffer as much as they do. I am trying to find the SPECIAL OLYMPIC'S for the Holland MI area. I will never give up hope for I know there is a God who created these special children and they need to be loved as much as the so called NORMAL. YEP I'M CRYING MY EYE'S OUT NOW. Sorry if it sound's like I am venting, but I have no one to confide in.

you had became dependent on your so called gifted status.
what you have forgoten about was you need to study in order for you to learn something.(that could be the case)

somehow, you might have thought that I can cope up with my studies even without participating in my classes or working hard.

however, I want to tell you that measuring your intelligence is not always in the piece of paper or a pen, what counts is what you know about yourself, what your capable off, don't mind what others think.

You are obviously proof that the report was in err...I am sure there are exceptions to the research of gifted kids, such as yourself, but no one can predict the outcome of someones future,no matter how well planned it is or researched..=)
