Increasing populations play a small part but it's largely greed if you ask me. To reduce it, people should stop over-consuming.

1. Growth of the population-more people the more oil, water they use. Population growth is reduced in developed countries but their consumption rate is so much higher that it does not result in less total consumption.

2. Wealth and development--The richer the population the more each can buy. Our over consumption is a good example of this. China has the only population control on people but the need and desire for material goods make it the fastest growing of the underdeveloped nations for consumption.

When we look at history and consumption by man the only things that seem to stop over consumption seems to be disaster. Love canal for handling waste, the bald eagle for use of harmful pesticides are just two examples..

the biggest cause is the growing human population and growing human desires for comfort. this also means technology is largely responsible too. the more technologically advanced we get every year the more natural resources are utilized to serve our ever incresing demands.

we can reduce this consumption by reducing our demands. we should use electricity sparingly, try taking a bicycle or walk short distances instead of taking the car, try taking the public transport buses to nearby areas, reduce the use of air conditioners etc.
