Assure them that God has a plan for their lives even though things are rough and show them the way to the Savior who alone gives us peace beyond human understanding and that life does have meaning -for all eternity.
If you think they will tune out or call you a fanatic-remember-you have been used of God to plant the way of salvation in their hearts-then leave the rest up to the Holy spirit to convict them they are sinners and need to repent and believe He came to redeem us from the penalty of eternal separation from our Holy God-then the choice is theirs and only theirs and always remember, Christians, we can not save anyone-we tell them the good news but the rest of it is up to the Holy Spirit for that is His ministry. You might be surprised that you will have been the one used to bring them to the Lord though you may not get to know it till we are in heaven.
Any help you yourself give them now is for the moment-salvation is for eterrnity-I can never thank the two God used in my behalf ever enough-I have that peace He gives and my 80 some years has had trials upon trials. Oh how He loves you and me. He showed it on Calvary.

That would be different for each person. Everybody has different needs. What one person may find as a kind gesture another may find it to be a lifesaver.

Allow your friends to be themselves with no judgments from you. Sometimes just listen to their problems without tryng to solve them.
