I had a stretch and sweep with my daughter at 39wks and although I lost my mucus plug she was reluctant to be born and was induced at 40wks. With my son however I went to the doctors at 40+1 and she did an internal but not a full stretch and sweep and then hubby and I had sex the next morning and I lost my plug straight afterwards. I went into labour that night and had him 9hrs later (so 24hrs after the sex and about 36hrs after the internal)

The only thing that is going to make the baby come though, is the chemical it sends out to your brain to let it know it is ready to be born. So if you do have a sweep and it works, then great! but if it doesn't, don't worry! Bubs is still in the best place it can be for now, and it will happen at some stage. they can't stay in there forever!

Good luck and fingers crossed for you!

I was overdue with my daughter and was offered a membrane sweep. This is when someone puts a few fingers up and strokes your cervix thinking it will release hormones that will kick start labour. This was quite sore for me. I bled a bit and felt sore down below. I later had to be induced at 10 days overdue!! But its worth a shot - they say about 50% of women will start to labour in the following 48hrs. Good luck. You'll soon have a bundle of joy one way or another!

hi
i had a sweep with my first at 40+1 and lost my plug within 4 hours, i then went into labour and delivered him within 12 hours... the doc did say though that my cervix before the sweep was fully ready for birth and it would be a miracle if i didnt deliver so im not sure if the sweeps success just coincided with something that was gonna happen anyway that day!!

i fully sympathise with you though im two days overdue now and am tired of waiting around i have to wait till sunday for a sweep though boooooo!

good luck

I had one done with my second (the doctors idea, not mine) and I nearly hit the roof it hurt so much. It felt so much worse than labour and I am never having one done again, much better to wait the extra fortnight. (It didn't work either by the way. Baby still took another week and a half to show)

Refuse them, or don't show up!

it doesn't work. I had one with my second child and it did nothing but hurt so don't waste your time in going. What worked for me is sex. Things started happening very soon after it
