The only thing that can force me to wear footwear is the weather; I carry shoes only in winter when it's below freezing, just in case I get stranded somewhere and my feet might get too cold. However, I haven't needed to use them for several winters in a row.
People won't force me to wear footwear; there are no laws against going barefoot, here in the Netherlands there aren't even any stores with 'no shoes, no shirts, no service' signs (nor have I ever seen any on my trips to Belgium & Scotland, it's mostly a US thing, but even then it's *store* policy only and not a law!), and I also go barefoot at work. If I did run into a someone who required shoes in their store or restaurant for some reason, I'd go elsewhere, even if I'd have to go many miles out of my way.

I go barefoot whenever possible, but keep my shoes on when required. I follow the rules without being forced.

No. I am barefoot now. But, I am in my home. I wear shoes everywhere else, to protect my feet from hot surfaces and stones and sharp things. C. :)!!

But my dad does.
