What do egyptians refer to themselves racially do they see themselves as black or white,or does the concept of race differ in egypt as compared to south africa,brazil or The Wester world

yes it is totally different , i didn't think about it before , but mainly we are ARAB , AFRICANS , about the religion there are Muslims and Christians , no difference between person and another and luckily no racial discrimination

Most refer to themselves as being Egyptian of Arabic origin.
But the country of Egypt has such a long history of invasion and rule by a diverse variety of nations with varied ethnic backgrounds.
This makes Egypt difficult to compare with any other country when looking for a true picture of racial identity. In this, as in many ways it is totally unique for the is no other civilization that has such a long history for a true comparison.

I am greek, but i can tell you that we can not generalise that egyptians or arabs are dark...I have studies in France and i have seen egyptians with blond hair and blue eyes...
Certainly, as medirterraneas are a little bit not darker but more brown hait and shin that the others, it is also due to the clima...
But it is an ancient race,with great civilisation, that all the other countries have to be jealous of them...

We never pay attention to skin colour, it is a very big collection, we have white black hazey and all the skin tones you could imagine, but mostly we consider ourselves more tanned than western or american countries because of the effect of the sun, but some egyptians consider having a fair white skin as a beautiful thing and they dislike tans more.

we dont have these descriptions in Egypt.

but in the country I live in now for consensus purposes we would say:

- Egyptian
- Arab
- Middle Eastern

all works.

for me, I love to describe myself as Muslim. I dont care which country or race I belong to.
