You have posted this question in law & ethics category & I can only give a legal opinion here with regards to the necessary legal condition for a valid marriage. The necessary legal conditions for any marriage in India under any matrimonial law are :- 1) age of bride should not be less then 18 years & groom should not be less then 21 years, 2) they both should be unmarried or divorcee or widow or widower as the case may be i.e. they should not be having living or legal spouse,3 ) they should be mentally fit & should not be suffering from any mental illness or disabilities,4) they should not be within the degree of prohibited relationship i.e. they should not be blood relatives of each other as per the required schedule. Now these are the common requirements along with this the requirements such as being of same religion if this happens to be a religious marriage & giving of one months notice if this happens to be a civil or court marriage under the provisions of the Special Marriage Act,1954. Now as far your question with regard to zodiac sign is concerned, law does not recognizes either astrology nor the zodiac signs, let me bring to your notice a very interesting incidence that happened when one of the most prominent & senior lawyer Sh. Ram Jethmalani was arguing in a case before the Supreme Court of India after finishing his days argument requested the Bench hearing his case to give a suitable next date which according to his astrologer will be auspicious & best for which the Judges sitting in the bench refused to oblige his request & told him that neither law nor the court recognizes astrology or what astrologers say. Now after reading all this I hope whether you should believe an astrologer or a lawyer for the purpose of legal marriage, just show this reply to your parents to clarify the legal doubts in your marriage.

I'd rather marry my opposite - a Virgo. I haven't been in any relationships, but I've come to realize that I need an Earth sign to keep me grounded (I always have my head in the clouds). I feel that a Taurus would also be a good match for me.

If by zodiac sign, you mean the same sun sign as per western system, then it is fit to be ignored. If you mean same Rasi/Nakshtra, then you need to consult an expert, superstitions apart.

Astrology was debunked hundreds of years ago. Simply put, there is no reason to believe in it. So you can rest assured that any problems in your relationship are not due to your astrological sign.

My husband's birthday is 2 days before mine so we share the same sign and it hasn't caused us any problems so far!
