Best way is probably going to your local gaming store and asking around. Gaming stores are usually hang-outs for D&D players.
Of course, you can always start your own group. It's usually easier when you're playing with friends.

A lot of gaming stores will have a message board where groups or players can post things. So, you might check yours and see if anyone is looking for an extra player (or post that you're looking for a group). Alternatively, if your local game or comic store hosts any sort of game night (almost anything will work, although your best bets will be stuff like warhammer or board games), you could go to that and maybe make friends with somebody who has a group. A lot of rpg players play other stuff, too. It's kind of the back door, but it might work.
Or if you know any computer geeks.... (it's a sterotype, but it's true.)

Though I had to laugh at the answer suggesting looking for pasty-faced kids at a comic book-store....
I have to agree that the best way would be to go to a comic / gaming store and ask around.
I played WAY back in period of 1978-1982... it was always a great way to spend a rainy weekend day.

You can also find people in your area through websites like
http://dnd.meetup.com/ or check your local gaming store or comic shop. And if all else fails you can find an online group that plays through a virtual tabletop system (a last resort in my opinion; nothing beats getting together around a table with some friends).

I must take this opportunity to plug GURPS because it's better than D&D!
To answer your question though, try your local university. Many have gaming groups. Or you can google search your town. Asking at your local comic or gaming shop is the obvious though.
Happy gaming!

in the further activity of money conservation & finished disclosure - you need to verify out Pathfinder & OSRIC, unfashionable clones of previous variations of the sport. you will get them on line for loose. Your team could be set on the sport du jour, yet you are able to desire to be able to scavenge techniques from what got here previously.

Look for the pasty kids in comic book shops. Or check in basements. Or on WoW forums.
