HOW IN TH WORLD DID YOU GUYS GET
5x-y=10
so y = 5x-10 = 5(x-2)
PLZ I NEED BRIEF EXPLANATION.

update #2
5x-y=10
so y = 5x-10 = 5(x-2)
P=2L+2W
so 2L = P-2W
so L = P/2 - W

its just a matter of "flipping" numbers to the other side of the equation. the real explanation is that we are eliminating other numbers besides Y from one side of the equation so we will add/subtract reciprocals.
5x - y = 10
add -5x to both sides.
-5x + 5x - y = -5x + 10
cancel -5x and +5x since they will equal zero on left side
that leaves us with:
-y = -5x + 10
since y is still negative, lets multiply -1 to both sides
-1(-y) = -1 (-5x + 10)
multiplying -1 just means changing all signs in this equation thus:
y = 5x - 10
or
y = 5(x-2)
solving for L
P = 2L + 2W
to eliminate 2w from the other side we add its reciprocal to both sides.
-2W + P = 2L + 2W - 2W
so that leaves: (changed order)
P - 2W = 2L
since 2L is 2 times L, we divide both sides by 2.
(P - 2W) / 2 = 2L / 2
hence:
(P-2W) / 2 = L

Well first, I have no idea, but this could be an intresting comment so read on. When in my life is someone going to hand me a paycheck with "5X-Y=10" on it? I will never have to do something like that in my life. All you need is addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The other forms of math are mostly useless for most people. So why do they teach them?
X = 2 and Y = 0
5 X 2 = 10
10 - 0 =10
(That was mostly a guess so I doubt it's right, I've never done algebra)

Man, the education detractors are right. They sure have dumbed down courses if these are Algebra 2 equations.
Actually, if you are expecting a number as a result, you will be disappointed. To solve for Y, you merely put +Y on one side of the equation and everything that is not "Y" on the other side. I hope you can do that.

For increasing cubic binomials the final formulation is as follows: (a + b) ^ 3 = a^3 + 3*a^2*b^a million + 3*a^a million*b^2 + b^3 on your case, a is x and b is -y^5 So (x - y^5)^3 = x^3 + 3*x^2*(-y^5)^a million + 3*x^a million*(-y^5)^2 + (-y^5)^3 Simplified: =x^3 - 3x^2*y^5 + 3x*y^10 - y^15 :D
