Yes, it is common for some dreams to come to fruition and there is nothing psychic or paranormal about it. We can often predict with our conscious minds what will likely come to pass based on what we know and what we've observed, and our unconscious mind is just an extension of our conscious.

You are going to hate this answer.
Keep a dream journal for a month or two and then examine the results. Dreams can sometimes be prophetic in nature or just off the wall. You will likely see such a spread of concepts that one friend getting a gf doesnt sound so unlikely anymore. Heck, maybe you wanted him to get a gf, he might have been a nose-picker, you know.
I just woke up after having a cute dream about Jo Rowling deciding she needed to write a new Harry Potter series. With the old series over, she needed a new conflict so... well, lets just say she came up with a clever villian.
Now, if Jo announces a new series next year, do I feel prophetic? Probably not. That woman never saw a dollar she didn't want.
Of course if she uses the same villian I dreamed about, I will be a bit disturbed. Maybe even start a Dear Fae column.

You have lots of dreams every night. One or two are bound to be close to true. Your mind will justify the details. You will forget all the other dreams and focus on ones that are close to becoming true.
If you really want to know how cognative your dreams really are, then keep a dream journal.
Everymorning spend 5 minutes writting down everything you remember from your dreams. The more detailed you can be the better.
Then when something from the journal comes true write it down.
I am guessing what you will find is that out of hundreds of dreams, one or two are kind of true, if you change some of the details around a bit.
This is what you are probably experiencing.
Think about this..... This guy was bound to meet someone eventually if you didnt move in on him.
If you are, however, actually dreaming detailed dreams that are coming true on a frequent basis, then you do have a gift.

I don't know how common it is, but it's not unheard of. Several years ago I had quite a few dreams to come true. I used to have a lot of cats back then, and 2-3 months before one of them would die, I would dream about it. I had 2 dreams about an online friend of mine being in a car accident, and 2-3 months later, she was (but it wasn't as bad as my dream had "predicted"). Seemed like I had a couple other dreams that came true shortly after as well back then, but can't remember what they were.
But, that's been several years ago now, and it seems I've lost the ability or something. I haven't had another dream come true like they did in forever.

These kind of dreams are called prophetic dreams. They are just one of the many types of dreams we can have. Its like being psychic while your asleep. Even if your not psychic when awake you can have them. I don't know exactly how common they are as many people don't talk about these things. I've never had a prophetic dream so your lucky. Sorry about the guy you liked getting a gf. It probably wasn't meant to be and you'll find someone even better with time. Good luck!!

I don't know if I would like to get a "gf". As for dreams in general, if the event is has reasonable probability of happening with or without your dream, it could happen. On the other hand, people who have dreams about VERY UNUSUAL events that come true are considered prophets or soothsayers and the like.

Our minds are powerful things. These are only the dreams you remember, it could be that your mind works out millions of scenarios, and once that happens, you remember the dream about it. Coincidence for really strange ones. Some things on this world just can't be explained by modern logic yet.

Here's something I came across on dreammoods.com:
"Prophetic dreams, also referred to as precognitive or psychic dreams, are dreams that seemingly foretell the future. One rational theory to explain this phenomenon is that our dreaming mind is able to piece together bits of information and observation that we normally overlook or that we do not seriously consider. In other words, our unconscious mind knows what is coming before we consciously piece together the same information."

Dreams are your subconscious filtering and processing information that passes into your brain but are not immediately recognized.
You probably picked up some signals and your subconscious brain put it together in a dream.
