I would be lying to you if I said everyone will give the same answer to the same question in all circumstances.

You will find that any human being will phrase his or her answer differently each time you ask a question. Furthermore, he or she will modify it further depending on the age of the audience, their capacity for understanding abstract concepts or words and phrases, their education level , your recollection of events and the degree of trust you bestow this person in order to fully make a disclosure that may be highly confidential in nature.
Is this lying? Perhaps. There are many other words to describe how your statement may be inaccurate and they are
1. Obfuscation
2. bad recollection of past events
3. confused
4. Inability to remember sequence of events
5.poor memory
6. Does not know how to communicate.

Lets say you were asked what time you arrived. Your first instinct is to say what you recall is your normal and habitual going home time. 5 PM. Did you forget you had to stop for gas and there was a line up? So it was really closer to 6, not five. You modify your answer. DId you lie? If someone was out to make you appear untrustworthy, and discredit you, he or she can say you lied when you said 5 PM.
You just did not remember that you deviated from normal practice that day. How often do you lie? Do you think you can easily look like a habitual liar for this sentence alone? Certainly.

Where does politics come in to the picture? The systematic discrediting of other human beings to gain points to achieve positions of power is often called "politics" .Is this the politics you are referring to?

As for "staying present", did you mean you have to remember to be ever the diplomatic gentleman or woman, the person who would never say a mean word that can hurt someone?

I think you answered yes to your own question, and I believe so will everybody else.

When I was much younger my answers varied with my mood, mostly because my moods had the power to jerk my head around. Today, my answers are not dependent on any mood. It has a lot to do with honor, that is having developed my own moral code & the ability to live it. It also is due to being more centered, more awake. And finally, it is due in part to getting a little older, some things are just not as important or I see them for what they are, empty.

It depends upon the question, the intonation of the asker, and the context in which it was asked. I'm sure I could come up with so many more variables if there were a specific question and/or specific circumstances.

Communication is so very much more than just words. Words are only symbols representing abstract ideas. We use them to communicate our ideas but can never rely on them to be exact representations. We also use inflection and body language to such and end. We need to place the words in specific context, or, if you prefer, in specific circumstances, to understand their meanings.

Liars and politicians may use this uncertainty of words to manipulate but so do those who pick and choose which words to hear, print, and interpret.

Without the context of circumstance the words are useless regardless of the questions.

My answer will vary but the message will be the same. The gist of message will ever be the same. What varies are the words i used and the sentence that will makes it. But what is essential is the thought will still be the same in a given circumstance.

Yes, my answer would vary depending on my mood or maybe a new insight on the same question or thru a new experience pertaining to the same question.

Yes it would.. Not just staying at the present, as somewhere, it is part of the ongoing (concious or unconcious) process of discovery, in dialogue with the self and with the world.
There is no one truth out there or true self within, that one would be deviating from. Being open to questioning oneself, is part of my making and remaking life coherent, attempting to thread realities or reality into meaning.
However, that such lucidity and clarity of mind are rare, and that the contradictions in the search for meaning in chaos inevitably crop up is another matter.

Yes. My opinions change with my moods and knowledge.

But if it is something that I strongly believe in, my mind would not change. I would call this...undecided?

No...

I would always answer it this way no matter what mood I was in at the time...

"I like sandals...do you? My mommy makes a good brisket."

Thank you very much...

My answer would remain constant. For it would be truth. Truth overshadows mood.
