The problem here is the 'wording' of the question. "What is so hard about spelling bee?" is not the same question as "What is so hard about 'a' spelling bee? The word 'a' makes all the difference in the answer to that question. Even at that, if a person hasn't learned the English language, then both of those situations would be hard especially if he was given the word 'bee' while attending 'a' spelling bee.

A bee is defined as social gathering ( such as a quilting bee ) or a competition ( spelling bee ). The challenge is to be the last man standing and, thereby, the best speller.
