Don't you feel that freedom is becoming a nice word that lost most of its original meaning?
I feel like year to year we loose rights by political decissions, all of those decissions are theoretically taken for the good of the citizens (smoking bans, airport control, etc.). Doesn't it look like we are going to the point of those old science fiction movies were they showed a "remote future (like Stallone's Judge Dredd)" with laws controlling every aspect of the society to the point that living was the most borrowing thing to do?

"That government is best which governs the least" - Thomas Paine.
The more we allow the government to grow and regulate and subsidize, the more independence we loose.
The government already limits the freedom to bear arms (certain firearms are not legal, particularly those that could possibly stop the military from subjecating the populace to military rule), the freedom to practice religion (prayers cannot be said on public school grounds even before school starts, unless you are other than Christian or Jewish because minority rights are protected), and freedom of speach (you cannot say anything that might offend anyone anywhere on the planet).
It's not Judge Dredd. It's George Orwell's thought police. The current term is political correctness.
The rewriting of history started years ago, in Vietnam, and continues today with Iraq.
At least the internet provides resources for the truth today.
All you have to do is google the Tet Offensive.
"The first and most ambitious goal, to produce a general uprising, was a failure for the communists. While there was little support for the Saigon government, there was no general uprising and the communists, most with no plans for retreat or withdrawal, took heavy losses. "
Use the Internet to find out the truth. There is so much information out there, if you really want to know.

You're right on the dot. This nations tyrannical government is securing ties to canada and mexico to bring a north american power. The Bush administration is following the same route that Hitler and his brown shirts blazed a little over half a century ago. The merging of state and business leadership, together with belligerent nationalism. Even though he hasn't yet started shoving people into gas chambers (Ashcroft is chomping at the bit to) his actions so far have mirrored the infamous Adolf. The corporate media has lulled the brainwashed public into a false sense of security (why everyone is for the war on "terrorism") even though this war isn't waged on terrorism but instead one waged of oil, big business, fascism and the beginning of a new world order where the uneducated and poor fight it.
Democracy has long since been dead and other countries don't hate us because of our "freedom", they hate our government which we should take quick example of. The only threat to our way of life is our own government itself. Get ready because just as the past has proved itself millions of times over, we're headed for a revolution and a rebuild of democracy which focuses power into individual states, american rights and less overall power. Take care

Actually I am think like that too. Even an ordinary human want to control something but I think if everything is undercontrol why, how can we use the word problem:solve, happy:sad, why there is opposites. People have to know how to decide not only for themselves but for the other and vice versa.

I am sorry to inform you but it is already here. If there is another "9/11" before this presidents term is up he can declare a nation emergency and it as bad as Germany during the Hitler reign. Can you say fascist police state?

Personally, I don't feel that my freedom has been violated. Until they come up with a Law that forces me to be shackled to my house with a curfew law, then, I would say, my freedom has now been violated and taken away. Other than that? If others feel that the smoking ban has violated their "freedom?" Then, that's their problem, not mine.

Unfortunately we don't "Live in Kansas Anymore," and our lives are more complicated because of terriorism and diseases that breathing cigarette smoking causes. I guess you do not agree with clear air and clear water laws either. I for one am breathing easier because of the smoking ban. I have a second hand lung disease because of breathing my dad's smoke when I was little. I have lost 1/3 of my lung capacity due to it.

one persons freedom is another enslavement

take the smoking ban - so you want to smoke - i want to breathe - incomputable. So your freedom is my suffering - my freedom is your suffering

Politics is just the playing out of one persons freedom against anothers
