I THINK IT ONLY SERVES FILM STUDENTS AND THOSE WITH AN INTEREST IN HOW MOVIES ARE MADE.
I ONLY SEE IT IF I BOUGHT THE DVD TO GET MY MONEYS WORTH.

It's not that important, and wouldn't really help film students because it's not telling anything super important, but it does make watching the movie/tv show more enjoyable. I personally love listening to commentaries because they are often really funny. Generally I rarely listen to the commentaries on movies because they are really long and have a lot of people commenting that it's hard to keep track of different conversations. But tv shows, that generally has two to four people commenting and they give some behind the scene things, they talk about different takes of the scenes, and often point out the obvious stuff that they hoped the audience didn't notice. The tv show Psych, for example has commentary with the two main cast members and the creator, and they are so funny. Supernatural also has some pretty funny commentary. But, it also depends on the personalities of the people doing the commentary. If they're boring, then the commentary is boring, but sometimes you find yourself laughing all the time because of the people in the commentary. As a film student, I would much rather watch a behind the scenes video than listen to the commentary in order to learn how the movie was made.

Well, maybe I'm biased, because I love movies, and I work in the TV and film industry. But to me, those commentary tracks add a whole 'nother level of enjoyment to a movie that to me is already worth watching in it's normal format. So, I really love the commentary tracks. Sometimes they are very funny, or very touching, and very often educational and informative.

i personaly like watching them because if the cast is in the commentary you get to really see there personality and and the directors personality also... and you get to see how it influences how the movie turned out...
