O.K., this is part from below website and part from my atlas, so only approximate: from London to Cape Town, South Africa= 5,985.6 miles.

and just looking at a map, I would maybe guess adding on another APPROX. 3,000 miles, for a total of APPROX.

London is about 56 deg N laditude. Since each degree difference in laditude is appx 69 miles, its distance to the south pole is (56+90)*69 miles. The 90 degrees is, of course, the laditude difference between the equator and the South Pole.
