i have two questions:
1) is it possible to hook up a 4 pin molex connector to a case fan? because im going to build a computer with 3 or 4 fans, however i only have 2 connectors designated as "fan only" while im gonna have a lot of spare molex connectors

2) what is a 4 pin cpu connector? i first heard about it on this site under the tech specs
http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/power_management/ocz_stealthxstream_power_supply
does a connector really need to be hooked up to the cpu fan or anything else having to do with the cpu? and if so, why dont i see some other psu's coming with these "cpu connectors"?

1.YES, there are different sizes of case fans that plug directly to a 4 pin molex.

2nd figure is the 4 pin 12V ATX cpu power connector. ALL NEW power supplies have at least one of this connector. It provides extra amps for the cpu. Most processors that draw more than 65W will not power up if this connector is not plugged to motherboard.
Top figure is the NEW EPS 12V connector. The OCZ SXS, combines the two 4 pin connectors to make up an EPS 12V. Purpose again is to beef up the current supply to the board, especially boards with 8-phase regulators. Typical boards only have 3 or 4 phase regulators.

(1). Yes, I have hooked case fans up like that

(2)Some of the new motherboards take the 4 pin plus either the 20 or the 20 +4 connectors. The PS there is for all types of motherboards.

If your motherboard takes the 4 pin, just make sure you do not use the one that will be labled +4 on it. That one is to be hook up with the 20 pin connector, if your motherboard has 24 pin connector.

Yes, there are some of those bigger fans (bigger than CPU fans, I mean) that are ideal as case fans that come with the big 4-pin connector already on them. Some others come with an adapter from big 4 to small 3 or small 2.

The 4-pin CPU connector is just this new kind of separate power connector just for the processor, but I don't know why they've moved to these.

Good luck with your computer work!

the two you have a foul power grant, or your new video card demands barely adequate wattage that it exceeds your power suppliy's ability. you should get a replace and/or better (i.e., greater watts) power grant.
