People cry when they are happy because of the cumulation of joy and relief. Emotions are so strong that they sometimes get confused. The same thing happens when somebody becomes hysterical, where they're so sad they begin laughing.
People only cry when happy if it's something they've been waiting and working a long time for. For example: I cried when my son was born.

Emotion makes you cry when you are happy as well. But it's the good tears that make you burst out crying. Some are so happy and overcome with intense emotions they just tear up like a wedding for example!
Love in a sense can be so strong and deep that when you look into the one you love eyes you get intense overhaul of emotion + happiness you cry!

To me tears represent an extreme emotion....and extreme happiness is just as powerful as sadness. Whenever whatever you are experiencing becomes too strong there is a possibility for tears. I love to laugh so hard that it makes me cry, or be so happy that it takes over. Of course, they come when things are bad too....

Tears of joy...sometimes when reaching a goal you've tried so hard for so long to reach and finally have, or are so happy to see something happen to somebody, your emotional level is so high that you start to cry for a good reason.

People cry when they're happy because they have finally accomplished something they regard with high value. It is usually very emotional when someone cries because they're overwhelmed.
