It has been 2 years since I did math. I pretty much forgot how to do these. Any tips and help would be appreciated! Please and thank you!

Solve:
1. x + 3/2 = 3/4(x -1/2)
2. x + 3/5 = 7/5(x+1)
3. 5x = 4/5(5x-2)
4. 5/4(4x + 2) = 3
5. x + 4 = 2x - 8(1/4x - 1/4)

6. A movie ticket costs $6.50. You have $35.00 to buy tickets and popcorn for four people. How much money is left to buy popcorn after the tickets are paid for?
7. The bill for your automobile repairs was $265.74. The cost for labor was $52.00 per hour. The cost for materials was $135.74. How many hours did mechanic work on your automobile?

Also, to the first answer below! I had to ask my mom if she could help me. She even forgot how to do these!

I honestly do not remember any of these. You can call me dumb or whatever, but it has been so long since I've done Algebra 2.

And these are SOME of my homework questions. Not all of them.

Kitty, just use common logical sense for 6 & 7 and it should be easy.

6. OK, so you buy tickets for 4 people @ $6.50 each how much is that?

4x6.50= $ 26.00

now you have 35-26 = $ 9.00 left to buy popcorn for 4 people to share.

7. your total bill (labor & materials) was $265.74
if the material was 135.74 then the remainder (265.74 - 135.74 = $ 130.00 ) was for labor.
With $130.00 for labor how many hours will that buy at $52.00 per hour, well
130/52 = 2.5 hours, so the labor charge of $130.00 was for 2.5 hours of work.

1. multiply equation by 4 to get:
4x +6 = 3x - 3/2
multiply again by 2 to get
8x + 12 = 6x - 3
8x - 6x = -12 -3
2x = -15
x= -15/2 = -7 1/2

2.Multiply eq by 5:
5x+ 3=7x +7
7x-5x=3-7
2x=-4
x = -2

3. Multiply by...............? fill in the blank, if you said 4 you are off by one. you will get:
25x = 20x - 8
5x = -8
x= -8/5

4. multiply by.........? hint the number is in the denominator of the fraction and you will get:
20x + 10 = 12
20x = 2
x= 1/10

5. first do the () part
now is this 1 over 4x or is it one over 4 times x?
I will solve for the latter.
the () part becomes:
(x-1) /4 after making 4 the LCD and this fraction reduces the 8 infront of it to a 2 and cancels the 4 so we have:
x + 4 = 2x - 8[(x - 1)/4]
x + 4 = 2x - 2(x - 1)
x + 4 = 2x - 2x + 2
x = -2

If you have more please post and I will help you, these aren't that hard, you can do them if you try with a little help from us here at yahoo.

1)
x + 3/2 = 3/4(x - 1/2)
multiply by 4
4x + 6 = 3x - 3/2
4x - 3x = -6 - 3/2
x = - 15/2
2)
x + 3/5 = 7/5(x + 1)
multiply by 5
5x + 3 = 7x + 7
2x = -4
x = -2
3)
5x = 4/5(5x - 2)
multiply by 5
25x = 20x - 8
5x = -8
x = - 8/5
4)
5/4(4x + 2) = 3
multiply by 4
5(4x + 2) = 12
20x = 2
x = 2/20 = 1/10
5)
x + 4 = 2x - 8(1/4 x - 1/4)
x + 4 = 2x - 2x + 2
x = 2 - 4 = - 2

6)
cost of 4 tickets = 4 *(6.50) = 26
balance amount to buy popcorn = 35 - 26 = $9
7)
let hours mechanic worked = x
x(52) + 135.74 = 265.74
52 x = 265.74 - 135.74 = 130
x = 130/52 = 2. 5 hours

uncertain if first equaton is written suited m/(m^2-m-20) + 2/(m+4) m/(m-5)(m+4)+ 2/(m+4) to feature fractions we want like denominators: m/(m-5)(m+4)+ 2(m-5)/(m-5)(m+4)= m+2/(m-5)(m+4) (x+a million)/3 + (x-a million)/3 = 4/3 i could multiply each thing by employing 3 (x+a million) + (x-a million) = 4 2x=4 x=2 3/(x^2 +3x) + (x+2)/(x+3) = a million/x 3/x(x+3) + (x+2)/(x+3) = a million/x 3/x(x+3) + x(x+2)/x(x+3) = a million/x 3+x/x(x+3) = a million/x x(3+x)/x(x+3) = a million (3+x)/(x+3) = a million a million = a million

Remember isolating the variable?

6. $35 - $6.5(4) = $ left over

7. $135.74 + $52x = $ 265.74 ; x = hours worked

I could believe that you would have trouble doing 1-5 if you havnt done math for awhile.. But you would have to be dead for awhile not to figure out 6 or 7... I think your just trying to get someone to do your homework... Do it yourself.
