Get a copy of Writers Market. Large publishers do not buy books of poetry but there are small publishers who buy "literary works". Seek them out. Just make sure you check anyone out through Preditors and Editors and Absolute Write Water Cooler's Bewares and Background Checks Forum before you send anything. There are a lot of small publishers who are either not legit or bordering on bankruptcy. Always check first through all the known channels for writers. In addition to the two above - Writers Wall, Writers Weekly, Anne Crispin's website and any others you can find. And skip poetry.com. It is a fraud. Pax- C

(1) Protect your creative work or else others may copy your work or claim your poems are theirs.

To make sure your poems are properly copy righted just do the following (this practice is accepted internationally) :

(a) Re-write ur poems on clean fresh papers and put them in a self-addressed envelope (keep a copy for your own reference).
(b) Seal & mail it preferably using registered mail.
(c) When you received it back keep it safely (keep it sealed, never open it). After some time you may need to have labels on the envelopes to help you organise which poems are in which envelopes.

(2) After you do step 1 above, then only you should proceed to have your work evaluated by the right people or/and have them published.

Always remember... no matter how excellent your poems are they are never trully yours until you have evidence to proof they are yours.

Good luck! :)

Do as 'Elling' did in the film by the same name: start hiding them inside different packed groceries in a general store - like inside a cereal box or whatever you make up. In the beginning it'll be hard, nobody will notice them, but the somebody writes about them to a newspaper, and the mystery makes them even more popular. At least this is how it happened in the film :)

Heed these words:

Becoming A Famous Poet

If you would like to become
A famous poet just like me,
Then transfer your thoughts onto paper
For all the world to see.
If you transfer your thoughts onto paper
For all the world to see,
Then I would like you to become
A famous poet just like me.

It's probably best to stab yourself through the heart
it leaves no room for confusion, none of this stomach pumping nonsense about cries for help
yes, it's probably best to stab yourself through the heart

Real genius means pushing the boundaries between death and art sticking your head in the oven is so unnatural, and prescription drugs well, they're hardly romantic now, are they?
no, it's probably best to stab yourself through the heart

Just sharpen your knife and you're ready to start
send out a carefully crafted press release, put the final
touches to your epic, leaving clear instructions for the publisher then it's probably best to stab yourself through the heart.

First, learn how to spell.

Second, learn how to punctuate.

Best advice ... Until you learn the right way to do something, don't try to be successful doing it the wrong way.
