Going by common logic and consistencies not only improves the chances of success in our endeavor, but also happens to be the only way for us to explore the truth..... instincts and hunches are risky propositions which can sometimes lead us to great heights on a fast track, but inherently lack sustaining quality. Experience shows that eventually, the proverbial slow and steady wins the race.

What does it mean to "believe in" it?

Common logic and its laws of consistency are systems created by mankind based on experience, and also gained instinctively through by evolution's experience.

Logic is based on axiomatic assumptions. We assume that because something has been a certain way for as long as we have observed it that it always that way.

In practice, there is no reason to doubt the rules of logic. In theory, there is no reason to believe they are definite.
