Then your motivation is not genuine. Loving another to get love back is to experience disappointment. Loving only those who will love you back is a self serving motivation for love.

Only those believing that they are unloved seek to be loved. Those who are loved don't need it -- they already have it.

Love equals selflessness. It is giving and sharing without even the thought for expectation! Do not ever expect anything in life if you do not want to spend the rest of your life in disappointment! Learn to cultivate this nature of giving without expecting!!! If your love is motivated by the any selfish need, then that love is not worth it at all. God has given you something called a heart. It has been created to love everyone equally. Selfish love is investing efforts only to feed your ego. If however we invest substantial amounts of thoughts to find solutions for others, to help others, to relief others, to create fun for others, to heal others, to create or reestablish freedom in others .. all such efforts are purely or mainly selfless love. Learning to love others rather than oneself is a primordial step to receive abundant love from others. Remember! expect nothing in life except the unexpected!

Generally, love is the way you feel about something. If that something doesn't love you back, it may be a drain on you but it doesn't change whether or not you love it.

Of course, 'love' can also be used to refer to romantic relationships between humans. Generally, if a romantic relationship isn't mutual, then it isn't healthy and it's probably in your interest to quit it.

Real love is for the sake of loving, not of being loved. Love is an act of selflessness. From a realistic view of life and how we work, however, love is selfish-inevitably. We usually love someone because they make us feel good be it just by being with them, or how they relate to us. Is this in and of itself not selfish? I could go on, but.....

It really isn't worth it coz all you get is pain and suffering, so if you love someone and they don't love you back, don't allow yourself to die pining away for them - go out there and get someone who can love you as you love them.

Never settle for a life of the torment of unrequited love.

I think whether or not you are loved in return that loving others is not a waste of time. I think loving someone is its own reward...and loving someone only if they love you is not really love, it is selfish gratification.

Love is thus unconditional...we must be thus wise enough to be unexpectant with Love..

It partially depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for someone to live with the rest of your life, maybe it just is best if you can live with them, not if you love them. If you are in it for the relashionship of it, dump them now. It will only hurt more later.
