You are closer to US. New York is -5 hours GMT. So when it is 4pm in London, it is 11am in NewYork. If it is noon where you are, you are 1 hour from a line through new york.

NewYork is around 3 to 4 Hours behind England Time as it is on USA east Coast.
Having Noon at a place when it is 4 o' clock in the watch by London Time indicates that the ship is at a place west to London .
So the ship is closer to United States than England .
(May be just close to USA East Coast) .

England is at 0 degrees longitude. There are 24 hours in a full day. The difference between your current location and the location in England is 4 hours. 24/4 = 6, so you are 1/6th of the way round the earth away from England, i.e. 360/6 = 60 degrees W. New York city is 74 degrees west, so you are closer to the US.
