The same problem happened to me, but I got it fixed. If you are using a Dell laptop, the vertical line problem is an issue a lot of people have been seeing. The website http://dellverticalline.com/ was started as a response to this issue. Dell was offering to replace the screens of certain models of laptops because the issue was so widespread (regardless of whether the laptop was under warranty).
So if you have a Dell, I would go to http://dellverticalline.com/ to find out more info about how to get Dell to replace your screen.

It sounds like you may have a hardware malfunction associated with your LCD screen. I'm assuming this is out of warranty. I'm also assuming that the problem is with the LCD.
Perhaps your best bet is to take it to a local laptop shop rather than assuming that the LCD has gone bad.
If you are hardware savvy and you think the problem is the LCD, you can remove the rubber tabs on the front of the screen and unscrew the frame holding the LCD. After unscrewing a few more screws and safely storing screws and rubber tabs, you can remove the LCD and look at the back of the screen to get the part number. (There is a small chance that the connector pulled loose, but that's not likely.)
You can search for this part number to get a replacement LCD. (I found a replacement LCD for my computer at a great price. Most manufacturers will charge an arm and a leg.) Order the replacement LCD and replace the LCD carefully undoing and reconnecting the new screen.
Unless you are sure the problem is with the LCD, I'd be inclined to work with a reputable repair shop.

the dafe and easiest solution just happens to be the pricey one also. Sounds like a new screen is needed asap. Dont want to repair one line and then another fails.

U have a failed transistor in the screen driver board, causing 1 line to die.
Only cure, is a new screen. hope it's under warranty, otherwise it's an expensive fix.
