According to Webster's:

Jealousy means:

Main Entry: jeal·ou·sy
Pronunciation: 'je-l&-sE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -sies
1 : a jealous disposition, attitude, or feeling
2 : zealous vigilance

Insecurity means:

Main Entry: in·se·cure
Pronunciation: "in-si-'kyur
Function: adjective
Etymology: Medieval Latin insecurus, from Latin in- + securus secure
1 : not confident or sure : UNCERTAIN
2 : not adequately guarded or sustained : UNSAFE
3 : not firmly fastened or fixed : SHAKY
4 a : not highly stable or well-adjusted b : deficient in assurance : beset by fear and anxiety

There definitions are similar, BUT NOT the same.
I think the real thing to understand the question is how the two are connected. Ex. Insecurity can LEAD to Jealousy.

Just as someone being constantly jealous of someone can lead to that person feeling insecure. Ex. If person "a" is jealous that the other person "b" has a caring family. And person "a" has a parent that is abusive, and a drunk. Then person "a" may start to feel insecure based on his family not being intact as "b" is. Which then leads to person "a" feeling insecure about his life, home, and family.

Alittle jealousy is good as it shows that the other person is concerned and loved you a lot and do not want to let you go, however, when that jealousy became extreme ,then that usually means insecurity and that the other person have some internal issues not resolved yet... Maybe low self-esteem or previous bad relationship... Then, it's time for a heartfelt talk to smoothen things out unless you feel that the relationship is not worth keeping.....

Jealousy grows out of insecurity

most of the time the cause of jealousy is insecurity. For example the girl in class next to you is jealous of your looks. Its because she thinks her's aren't good enough. But, sometimes jealousy isn't from insecurity. Like, if your husband cheats on you and your jealous of his girlfriend. That's not because your insecure.

Not entirely. I could be jealous of someones jacked chevy and yet still feel secure with my stock Ford purchase. It really all depends on the person and what characteristics each has. However, in an example that I can relate to for the insecurity bit is personal appearance. Yeah....I could be jealous of some chick with amazing legs and big t*** and hell yeah I would be insecure about my 5'7 stocky frame (muscular although) and a 34A for my bra! Urrgghhhh! Haha! I try not to think about it though!

well, that would mean yes. but there is a thin line between jealousy and insecurity. jealousy is the thought that you are the deserving one in all aspects. while insecurity is the thought that you can't do it because you dont have the confidence. well, this is only my opinion, ok?

To a point yes. If you jump on every little thing. But, if you significant other is flirting with people and acting amorous than it might be justified.

Other types of jealousy are probably insecurity.

A little bit of jealousy isn't negative. What a person should worry about is when their partner is controlling!

Jealousy is cute., albeit a moderate form of. It's a spice in a relationship.

Too much of it is retard, I tell you. And some people lost their lives having a totally-jealous/totally-insane partner.

Yes- Jealosy is someones insecurity as they cannot do or be something/one like you.
Its also the compliment to the person who has someone jealose of them, but that doesn't make for a good friendship.

Jealosy is ugly.
