Because the world has always been crazy.

God gave Man free will, and Man will choose hedonism or wisdom. Some choose hedonism, then demand that others pay for the repair of the dire consequences of hedonism. These are called "Libs."

It's always been crazy Jake. Before all this, we had the cold war and the nuke drills where they'd practice getting the kids under their desks in case of a Russian nuclear attack!! Some people even dug holes in the ground and put food there in case of a nuclear war. It's always been crazy, I just hope we reach a point of maturity as human beings to really be able to live and let live.

It has always been like that Jake .Just like every other answer has said.
You ,growing up in this day of Internet...24 hour news...etc...are probably more informed with it's every action than any other generation.
But be aware, these media formats require food to justify their existence so take everything with a grain of salt and limit your news intake....they are in the business of "making" the news not just reporting it.

Nah... the world has always been crazy. The Crusades, the Fall of Rome, Mongol Invasion of China... WMDs have just made our mass killings of each other that much more efficient, nothing more.

True this is not a lgbt question, but to answer your question, the reason that these kids are turning to gangs is because in most cases there is no father figure in the home and the mother is working and trying to find mr. right so that leaves the kids to their own devices and because they miss the family unit and they go looking for it in the streets with gangs.

To some degree, the first Answerer is right: The world has always, to some degree, been "crazy" in the sense that we've always had "rogue states" that are hair-trigger and want to fight a war at the drop of a hat. But....

I also think that, at least since 1980 or so, we've seen this *huge* rise in wealth for the richest one percent or so, of the people in developed nations, and the United States in particular....while the rest of the people, the bottom 99% that is, see their wealth and standards of living drop and drop and drop...

And the Media doesn't help, Politicians *refuse* to help the people *who voted for them*, and basically, a lot of otherwise civilized people are getting screwed out of their lives. Our lives, I should say. This is causing some degree of discontent above and beyond the usual historical "crazy". Essentially, we are seeing a gap in wealth and standards of living, the likes of which hasn't existed since the days of the Robber Barons, the Gilded Age of the late 1880s, 1890s.

And with that gap comes social unrest, public disorder, and *lots* of discontent among ordinary people. If our Mass Media weren't *so* invasive and *so* ruthless about exploiting every *last* "us and them" division out there....we'd be rioting already. But even that safety valve has its limits.

And one of those limits....is a disconnection from the truth, from reality out there in the broader world.

Because you see....*we* in the United States got a small taste of what real, 3rd-world, East-African-caliber misery looked like, with New Orleans, post-Hurricane Katrina, then during the year-plus it was occupied by the military. We didn't like it. We saw a likely future that *should have* scared us to death....but a lot of us were too bedazzled by Paris Hilton and American Idol to stay focused and give a damn.

And in the meantime....a LOT of people who are actually IN the 3rd world....THEY are tired of living in 3rd-world, East-African-caliber misery as well. And where before, they looked up to us and respected us as a possible solution to their problems....now they look at us as the CAUSE of their problems, and the world's biggest FAILURE to boot.

And they tune in to Mass Media, some of ours, some of their creation too, whenever possible, so they too have that "us and them" thing going on. Meaning: Everyone's thinking it has to be at *best* a zero-sum game now....that for them to win, *we* in the United States have to lose and be dragged down into the gutter.

Which of course, we ordinary U.S. citizens rather *resent* because while we *voted* for some of these bastids, we sure as hell had no intention of giving them the *blank check* they took to the capitol and *ran with*.

So yeah, basically, what it is, is: Too much wealth in the hands of the filthiest of the filthy rich....not enough left to go around for either *our* ordinary people or the *rest* of the planet's ordinary people, never mind the poor....

And we are all at each other's throats over it, when we *should* be hanging the CEOs, one by one, taking their heads like people once had to take Marie Antoinette's.

Just my plug nickel....never mind me.

It's a ME world instead of an US world.

Lack of morals, ethics, personal responsibility, taking (a loving) God out of every day life, and no consequences for bad behavior are some ills which contribute to this "crazy" epidemic.

As the other answers have stated- it's been this way throughout history.

As time goes on we invent more efficiant ways of killing each other.
