A dream can be lost be someone reaching thier goal and therefore be a good experience.
A lost dream due to circumstance or a distraction may not be the end either, it could be a wake up call to realise that some dreams are just that, to be followed up by a better path.
The trick is to not confuse the pain of loosing ones dreams with the pain of loosing ones hope.

Do you mean a dream, like to be a great soccer player, or a dream you have when you go to sleep?
I think if you lose your lifelong dream, it is sad, but certainly not the worst thing. Losing your health, a family member, these are the worst things.
