I'm stuck between two laptops:

Core2Duo 1.5 ghz, 2 gb RAM, 160GB HDD, a Intel X3100 ---- costing $800

Core2Duo 1.73ghz, 1 gb RAM, 160GB HDD, but a Intel GMA 950 ----- costing $750

Basically, I can get the 2nd laptop and just buy a 1 gb stick for about 40 to 50 $. Then the two options would be the same price. The only drawback is it will have that the Intel GMA 950 which is a really horrible card.

Should I just go for the first laptop? How much of a difference is there between 1.5 ghz and 1.73 ghz in a core2duo? Thanks!

Well I would tell you to get the one with the dedicated graphics as well, too bad neither of these has that. Anyway, I would go with the first one, although to be honest the 3100 is not that much better than the 950, despite how Intel has hyped it up.

You can probably get a benchmark from Intel or a review site, but in day to day computing a small bump in processor speed won't make a lot of difference.

You're better off with x3100 video, and RAM factory installed will be matched. So buy the 1.5.

Yes get the unit with the dedicated graphics. You will barely notice the difference in CPUs.
