OK, it is a void put there by God.
When did he say that he did not want us to go beyond it?
Were there not people to discourage humans from crossing the oceans before? Were there not people to scare us that if we sailed far enough, we'd fall off the flat Earth (even though the Greeks knew the Earth to be a sphere well before that)?
After all, if it is a purgatory, then he does not want us to stay here for eternity. That, by definition, would make it hell, not purgatory.
---
As for sailing far enough on flat Earth, I think we missed our chance. Sail out far enough, fall off the edge: you're in space!
The space age would have begun a lot earlier.

Well God would know that eventually mankind would be capable of venturing out into the abyss of space . I wouldnt think he would want what we are here to do in this life to be affected by coming across something he has reserved for another dimension in our existance.
I recently saw on Yahoo news of all things a statement that a group of prominent Physics scholars said that it appeared to them based on some research that if you were to start out at point A and travel straight ahead up and out into the atmosphere that you would find that your striaght line would curve and you would end up back where you started. That the solar system itself was contained in a round like sphere . So it would be as traveling on earth from one point and went straight it would be the same effect.
Depending on your particular views on religion I would say that if you believed in a sterotypical view of heaven ( and I dont say that mockingly) then God would have to but up a void or a barrier. God is aware of what a humans full potential is so he would have prepared . Its a shame that we as humans havent even come close to it.

Well if you believe that (and why not?) then he would have had to PUT it there. In the beginning there was just void. God created everything else and left the void alone! 8^)
But if you believe it's there because God didn't want us to go beyond it, does that apply to the oceans too? They were not easy to cross, in fact they were virtually impossible to cross until good enough ships were developed. What about big deserts, like the Sahara desert? They weren't easy to cross either. Were all those things meant by God to keep us in our place?

But it's not just a void! There is A void (it's about a billion light years across! Good size), but the rest of the universe is packed with awesome stuff. Star clusters, billions of galaxies, nebulae, all sorts of naturally occuring phenomenom...

that because He want human to use our brain to think somethink far beyond our touch. He crates the universe to make human become more clever when well use our brain to discover slowly the creation.
2nd, God making art from a canvas blank to show human that He is so powerful and Mighty.
3. He makes this all becase He want to paint a beautiful view and dowan makes human bored with life. This mean, u can see aurora at south pole and north pole otherwise, cant.
