Using a hose, suck out all the fuel remaining in the tank when the gauge shows you have 1/8th of fuel left. Do this at your favorite gas station. When there is nothing left to suck out, start filling your tank. Do this in the morning when the gasses have not expanded because of the heat.

If you still have the owner's manual, it will tell you there,,, or contact a dealer of the make of car you have,,,,even if it's an older model someone in the shop will know or tell you how to contact the manufacturer to find out.
Is your gas gauge broken? I found out when my car was darn near empty and I had to fill it up !!!

Find a 5 gallon tank, then fill it, then put the gas in the tank, and repeat. When the tank is full, you got your capacity.

on some vehicle models you can look under the hood and there will be a stickers or two in the front next to the hood latch. One of these should have specs. for tire pressure, tire size, oil capacity and so on sometime it will have fuel capacity or look inside the driver side door jamb for the same type of sticker.

If you don't have an owners manual, you can find it in a car repair manual. Most better manuals Motor,Chilton, etc. will have a section with specifications for each particular car.Look yours up,check the specification for fuel tank capacity. Most public librarys have these manuals or can get them.

Yes, look in your user's manual. Look in the Table of Contents, or in the Index towards the back of the book, under the heading "Fuel Tank" or "Specifications" or "Capacities".
That should get you what you're looking for.

Look in the manual like the post above said. You can also look up online source like Autozone.com if you car is one of the ones listed.
Also you can call the dealer. This kind of information they would know right off the bat. Also don't hesitate to call few dealers to verify the data.
