I have a lot of old debt from a divorce over six years ago. I was able to delete a lot of it but only from one reporting agency. I'd like to clear up all three reports but when I visit their individual sites, I get offers to sign up for a service.
There has to be a way I can do this on my own. I'd really just like the old and inaccurate items removed and start working to rectify the rest.

If one credit reporting agency removed the debt due to your dispute the others should as well. A common misconception I see with clients is that they think if they dispute with one bureau it is communicated to the other 2 but this does not happen. The three major credit bureaus are: equifax, experian, and trans union. You need to call the 2 you have not disputed with and ask for a dispute form which you will fill out and include a copy of your drivers license for ID purposes and they will get with the creditors you are disputing. These creditors have 30 days to respond to the agencies to either prove the debt is valid or to correct. You do not have to sign up for a service this is a waste of money you can handle this yourself. If they will not remove the items then do not pay them now because if it have been 6 yrs they will be falling off your report within a yr. If you pay now it will change the last activity date to recent and you will have to start over with another 7 yrs of these debts showing up.

Write each credit reporting agency a letter saying what you want removed, say what's right, say what's wrong and send them a copy of your drivers license, correct and up-to-date address, list your current employer. Tell them about the divorce and list the court case. Tell them that after they have updated your credit report if they will send you a free copy so you can re-check it. Why would you try to do that by visiting their site?

Remember that things that haven't been bothered with in 7 years should be coming off of the report soon so don't mess with those or it will start the 7-year process all over again from when you ask. If there are things on there over 7 years and you want them removed then tell them that.

Sometimes there may be an old paid up bill on there. Don't ask them to remove that if you've paid as agreed because you still want to have some good credit left on that credit report.

If the divorce was 6 years ago , you should be approaching the 7 yr drop off point .
Items are on for 7 years from the last payment activity .
Otherwise , lower your current debt to less than 10% of your income and
Never be late on any of your current accounts .

Good Luck !
