There are too many factors to consider in order to tell you any general amount. They begin with how long the commercial is and how large the market is that it is being shown in, and goes from there. How often will it be shown? At what times of the day? How popular is the product? Are you getting a percentage, a set fee, or both? Etc.

BTW if you're going to star in a national commercial and you have a speaking part, then you need to obtain SAG membership.

Your first answer is a little off, but close enough. Since much of the income would be residuals, there is no way to tell. Why be concerned about it? One really good commercial or series of them like the Dex guy can set you up for life.

They tell you upfront. If it's non-union you get a flat fee. If it's SAG you get your session fee, a holding fee and residuals. Go to sag.org to find out how much. And 25 to 50k is VERY unusual. Most of those things are infomercials and don't pay a lot.
