around 2000 Volkswagen Golf TDI 1.9L Diesel Engines.

How long do they generally go Kilometer (km) wise before they start to have problems and burn oil?

Diesels are inherently built much stronger than a gas engine because of their high compression ratio and can typically last 2-300,000 miles or more before a major overhaul or teardown. Semi trucks can go 500,000 or much more but are hugely expensive to fix.

I have a 96 golf tdi and she is still tickin nicely, with great mpg.
I am nearly at 200k miles with no problems.
Generally VWs are very good as are most german diesel cars. Dont be suprised if its well over 200k with a volks, Mine has left petrol cars at the lights, only probs can be with the gear linkages
