Hi,

the question back to you is: Why would you want to try and get an agent if you have no experience? Because you think you will get lucky and get a break?

That could happen, but it is just not probable. If you hope to go far in this industry, you should start out and build a solid base. I can imagine that that isn't what you want to hear, but if you try and get an agent with no experience, you'll probably have a difficult time finding one.

You might even get lucky and find an agent willing to represent you, but then the question becomes, will you get sent out on auditions.

So here's my advice to you from my website for new, aspiring actors:

Go and download the free ebook: What It Takes To Become An Actor. Just go to any of the links I send you to below.

have a look at this page about how to get an agent: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html

Have a look at this page about the benefits of taking acting classes: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/taking_acting_classes.html

That's it for now. That should keep you busy and learning about what you need to do.

Like Spike Lee once said: Do the right thing!

Well, the agents want you to be good to be able to offer you for parts. Without experience, they don't have a marketable commodity and they want to make money. Some might take a chance on you if you have someone in the business who would recommend you -- but then there is no guarantee. The best thing is to take classes, audition and get local parts and start building a resume so you will have something to offer an agent to represent you.
Good luck.

Agents typically, represent actors that have experience.
When I was in the business, we represented an actor without experience, he booked the lead role on a very popular sitcom that ran for years, so, yes, it can happen. Good Luck.

If you don't have experience, perform in plays at your community theater and invite agents to the production, so they can see your performance.

The film and theater department of universities, often cast for their student film productions. Call the theater department of the Universities in your city and ask where you can find auditions for the University student films.
This experience will be helpful.

Agents are in business to make money. They only get money if their clients book jobs. They get tons of submissions. They have their pick of the very best actors with the very best training. Would you offer a contract to someone who had no experience or training? Of course not. You need to have something to bring to the table. If you don't, you don't have a chance.

Usually, no. It's a very unique situation when an agent takes someone with no background, no training, no resume... you can always try and see what happens.

In NYC there are management companies that have open call every so often. Even if you have no experience, but have the talent they will give you an opportunity but you have to be really good when you audition for them. JMM Talent is one of them. I know a few people that have been signed by them and get jobs through them.

Nope, sorry. The only exceptions to this are if you have other marketable qualifications, for instance: you are a top fashion model, have a genuine unique look or ability (i.e. your 8 feet tall), or have earned the public eye in another way (your a well known pop singer).
