All things never last, it depends on how you are dealing with your personal things. Its like guessing a bird on a hand if its dead or alive. But this all depends on your hands. Longevity maybe 5 - 8 years , if your a good keeper. When you reach that years your unit will now be obsolete a new technology will be born. I range technology 3 to 6 months we a new gadgets and new innovations. All we do is to know what is the latest and that is knowledge that never grows old.

God Bless.

There are a range of urban myths and half truths regarding this.

Many older computer users claim that leaving a computer on will mean it lasts longer because the process of turning on and off a computer puts strain on the components causing them to last for less time.

However, in reality most components in your computer and turning on and off, heating up and cooling down, based on the use. If you touch the processor of a computer that is on, but doing nothing, it won't be hot. If you run graphics processing on it, it could get hot enough to burn your hand.

Basically, a good quality laptop has been engineered so that the main components will last for 10 or more years. Cheap lap tops and computers are engineered around 2-3 years.

Often what breaks on a laptop is not the main board or processor, but another component, such the screen, or connector to the screen. One weak link can cause your computer to be useless.

My laptop has been going for 4 years plus, and the main problems have been physical, having it carried through -30 blizzards and +40 heat waves, across many countries, in bags, backpacks and all conditions.

In short, generally speaking there is no advantage to leaving your laptop on or turning it off.

This question has been asked about every electronic device since the inception of the vacuum tube.

While keeping the tube hot it is true for vacuum tubes, I have seen many argument on both sides of solid state. Both sides make good points, but none draw hard conclusive lines.

For a rule of thumb, buy a good laptop and take a 3 or 4 year extended warranty on it, At the end, trade it, sell it or trash it. The life has been reached and newer technology will be ready to replace it.
