well im making me a step side chevy truck and i was wondering if it would work if i put a 1972 chevy cab and short stepside bed on a 1974 chevy short bed frame. would i have to change mounts around or will it bolt right up? thanks

the 1972 chevy truck and the 1974 chevy truck are different body styles! the 1974 is the same body style up to an 1988 chevy truck body style.

It should work fine, measure the cab mounts, they should be the same and I know the box mounts are the same. One issue will be the fuel tank, 67-72 they were in the cab and 73-87 they went to the frame so eye that up but if that becomes an obstacle a Blazer gas tank between the frame rails would clear that up and give you up to a 31 gallon capacity, I have one of those tanks left over from old projects too depending where you are. Another way of eliminating that as a problemis to use an 88-98 Sportside box, the side would go over the tank and that combo looks sweet, it all still bolts right up too along with tail light wiring

Most likely it will fit, (especially if the cab looks about the same body lines).. The most critical part would be the cab mounts, if they are same distance apart. It isn't the "biggest problem in the world" to change them by removing old ones and placing them in right spots, and then re-welding!
If my memory serves me right, the next body change is in 75!
Have been out of mechanic business for about 20 years now!
I do know that the 55 body type was used through 59(I have a 58) ! And I have a 79 door on my 83 chev pu-- the lines are the same, but the door trim inside is a different size and shape! Of course the trim on outside doesn't match (or the color)!! So a lot of the bodies are used for several years before radical changes to cab itself are made.
In fact the 72 doors may be just same lines (only different chrome on some models)!! If so the body itself is the same, - also the shape of windshield and corner posts will tell you a lot!
If you can find somebody in an "old car club", they can tell you a lot of things about what to do and what not to do!

1972 and 1974 are different bodies styles may be it might work But I do not think so.

Should be the same mounts---same body style between the two years and no major changes but you may want to measure up things just to be sure.

i was told by a man that it will fit.. but the mounts are shorter on a 72 then a 74...

67 thru 72 are the same. you can swap their parts all day long
