The civilization was spread from Tanis in the north to Abu Simbel in the south, the 1st dynasty began around 3100 BC, unifying the north and south. This lasted to the 8th dynasty, around 2125 BC. the Old Kingdom of Egypt ended in chaos and disorder. The Middle and New Kingdoms lasted up until about 1069 BC.... some 3,000 years in all....an awful long time for an ancient civilization, don't you think?
