Bush is not a bad leader. I liked Clinton and Old Man Bush, too.
Since 9/11 (which was 12 years in the making), there have been no further mass killings of US civilians on American soil. 3000 odd civilians died that single morning and 3000 odd US military have died since then. That fighting is their job. I read a lot of stuff and see a lot of hope in soldiers doing their mission.
Taking a long view of the historical forces at work here, I would say that Bush has done a good job on this front. The fight is somewhere else. You can go to the mall, the beach, Ground Zero or a large stadium event and feel extremely secure against terror attacks.
Bush has also refrained from the global warming hysteria promulgated by some scientists who ignore the sun spot phenomena and related solar system events which actually cause global warming and which has in the course of history caused it many times. As the Arctic melts, cores were taken of the sea bottom and they evidenced a tropical climate.
However, Bush's government has invested many dollars in alternative technologies to develop renewable and non-petroleum sources of energy so that pollution can be abated, as any good guardian of nature should. These include (sea) wave technologies, geothermal and other new ideas, as well as expanding wind, solar and alternative biofuels.
Bush was elected by vocal anti-abortion activists, et al, and he immediately proposed an anti-abortion amendment to the Constitution as he promised them he would. The Republican Congress immediately, quietly and firmly quashed it. There are other instances of his 'callousness' like Katrina, but the National Guard was poised on the Louisiana border waiting for the governor to invite them in, as required by law, and they were not invited in. "Brownie" let us down, sure. But why has New Orleans remained unrepaired? It is below sea level and there is nothing you can do about that- there are no insurance companies willing to insure the buildings if they are rebuilt.
Texas welcomed the refugees, it was being run by Bush's Lt. Governor- Texas was prepared on short notice to deal with the problems of poor refugees partly because Bush left his house in order.
This is not to say that I am a Republican. I am a Texan. I just have this eternal curiosity about what is actually happening. Conspiracies hardly ever work on a grand scale anywhere; they hardly ever work in this country at all, due to an active press diligently uncovering the wrongs, whistleblowers, activists, etc.
When people are screaming the loudest and pointing fingers, there is a lot of incredulity in my mind, but I look it over and decide how much is self-serving and how much is relevant. Sometimes the house is on fire. Sometimes the sky is falling, Chicken Little. When people present a cogent case, I look it over and figure out how much is self-serving and how much is factual and relevant.
The truth is hard to conceal and it is usually pretty simple. Anything is open to speculation and interpretation. So I try to look at the simple truths and look for the agenda in the criticisms that require huge machinations by trolls and other armies of do-badders and then I try to figure out if these armies exist.
Bush has finished two terms and he cannot run again. But he was elected twice and I think that usually the country gets the President it needs at the time.

I disagree and the only mistake he made was supporting the Immigration Reform Bill (aka Amnesty), he should have sealed our borders immediately after 9/11.
You make a lot of mistakes too, did you know that proper nouns are capitalized so it is Bush, not bush, the kind of bush you are talking about is like a little shrub. If one makes a lot the the noun would be plural as in mistakes. You should also say "who would agree with me" or "who, agrees with me"
I suppose that we can all assume that you would not make a good leader yourself.

I don't agree with you at all, but I completely agree with dez604. Most presidents, no matter how great, have made a lot of mistakes ... especially if you listen to their detractors. The main thing going against Bush is that most liberals have big mouths and tiny brains, and equate noise with facts.

I agree. But you know, Clinton made mistakes too, so did Carter, JFK etc. Yes Iraq was a mistake, but Afghanistan and 9/11 wasn't. Do you honestly think that all the blame on Iraq can fall at Bush's doorstep. If you do, I feel sorry for you friend.

Totally agree...
He will go down as the Worst President in History, and those giving me a thumbs down are upset because they won't be able to deal with it.

I do not think he made many mistakes, just he made decisions for big business and special interests instead of thinking what is really best for the people.
When you have the best minds at your disposal, not many mistakes are made, but they rather you believe mistakes were made.
