and does anyone else belive that arguing about religion and real estate is pointless, and that we should be furthering MANKIND - colinizing new planets- finding alien races, (I mean, personlly, I want to really fing other world that are habitable for humans, and learn new sciences and make the impossible possible... I want to see this world move beyond dead plants and animals for our main energy sources. I want scientists and physistist and doctors to be our heros. I want to progress into something more and not waste time with individual, insignificant personal opinions and making any one else conform to our "RIGHT" way of thinking? Anyone else out there want this kind of progression? ANyone else other look at the sky and see the beautiful blue, and then want to see that dark space above our atmosphere, and not feel so unfamilar about it?( I really mean this question not for the "dreamy artsy types"-but for those that want to see it as a reality, and what their thoughts are about it)

yes. totally.
right now we need to focus on the inner space more though I feel.

I think this can surpass the power and ideas behind types 0,1,2,3
anyway until we break the light barrier, any type of travel and power behind it will just be too time consuming.
I mean the closes star to us is 4.2 light years away.
it would have to be a one way space colony hoping to find an island and natives that won't kill them
but overall, yes, we as humans should actually think about changing our ideas of GOD and religion into a religion of space travel preparation other wise we WILL die here on earth somehow and miss out on the UNIVERSE ...... and beyond.... Dun Dun Dun..........

Yes, I have had many of these same thoughts over the years, but I am a little less inclined to tolerate opinions based on ignorance and superstition, just out of a need to be nice and get along with other people.
Oh, your question: these types of civilizations are based on their technology. Much of the classification has to do with the amount of information generated and also the amount of energy consumed. It is theoretical at this point since we are the only civilization known. And sorry, but for the moment, I can't remember what classification we are.
Edit: Okay, I see now from Otis' link to the Wikipedia article that we are not quite a type 1 civilization. I really think type 1 should have been set lower, to include industrialized civilizations. Nothing wrong with having four types.

Oh, yeah, the Kardashev scale! But I absolutely agree - we spend so much money on trying to kill other humans. If even a TENTH of that amount was put into Astronomy, we could start Terraforming Mars next year! I definitely want this to become a reality - stop killing people and start the mission to the stars.
I mean, at least a type 1 civilisation! That'd be nice!

I've heard of type 0,1,2,3 civilizations. It was on the Discovery Channel six months ago. Michael Kaku or somebody, I think.
And this kind of progression sounds beautiful. But unfortunately we have a duty to humans as humans, and many humans are suffering and need help more than we need a new planet.
