Try some live food. Gecko's don't usually eat dead bugs. My Leopard geckos eat crickets, mealworms, waxworms and superworms. A baby the size of yours will eat pinhead crickets and small mealworms fine. Also, calci sand is a bad idea, babies and adults often become impacted and can die. I would stick to paper towels. Instead of a black heat lamp use an under tank heater. Leo's need belly heat to digest their food. Good luck with your Leo, they are fun pets. =)

You need to change several things right away. First, if it came from a pet store, forget everything they told you because it is wrong. Here are the basics:
1. NO loose substrate--sand is the worst. They eat it and it causes severe intestinal impactions. Use papertowels for a baby gecko. Later, non-adhesive shelf lining, tile, or reptile carpet can be used.
2. No canned food. Your leo needs live crickets and mealworms. Tiny ones, no bigger than the width of the leos head between his eyes.
3. Sprinkle powdered calcium (plain--no phosphorus or D3) on the crickets a few times a week--just a light coating.
4. Get rid of the black light. Leos need belly heat to digest. You need an under tank heat mat, made for tanks. They stick to the bottom on the outside. Put it at one end.
5. Leos need 3 hiding places. This can be ready made caves for reptiles, or something as simple as an overturned tupperware bowl. One hide goes on the cool side of the tank, and two on the warm heat mat side. One of them should have folded papertowels in it that you mist daily with water. This is called a moist hide and is vital for shedding.
6. Have a vet check a stool sample for parasites.
Please read everything you can on these two sites to provide correctly for your Leo before you lose him!

If you leave the crickets in the tank for too long, he won't be devoured by the crickets, he'll just become irritated. They may pick on him though. He's a noctournal hunter, so he'll probably hunt at night. I'd recommend that you remove the crickets for now, and try to feed him a little later when he's not so stressed out about getting a new home. Also, make sure they're small enough for him to eat, or he be able to.

Leo's need live food, they like hunting for their food. Also get rid of the sand, if they eat too much it could cause impaction and they can die from it. The black heat lamp is not good either, get a white basking lamp instead. Good Luck!

my leopard gecko did the same thing. we thought it was nothing so ignored he than died. i think i could have saved him if i would have payed more attention. so if he won't eat that put him iv a small box/container than put the crickets in that so he won't need to run around as much. oh and don't feed them mealworms til they get older.
