It is a ball and socket joint but there is no space to maneuver. I tried to use brute force with one hand but it wasn't enough. Tools wouldn't fit either. Hope you can help.

Warm up the socket part with a hair dryer thereby expanding it and making it easier to snap back on the ball---a little soap solution may help it slide back on. May have to use a rubber mallet to pop it on also. Love Maserati's---VROOOOM>

can you remove the pedal assembly and disconnect the wires or cable? perhaps you can get the whole thing out into the light and get it sorted. Good Luck.
